Already out for the spring after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder in January, former starting quarterback Luke Del Rio is having surgery on his right shoulder Wednesday, UF coach Jim McElwain announced Tuesday.
McElwain said the surgery is relatively minor and Del Rio should be able to return sometime this summer.
“He’s going to get his other shoulder cleaned out,” McElwain said. “This guy played (hurt last season) and didn't bow out. Here's the good thing, we're going in and getting him fixed right.
“He'll be fine. It's not major. We’re going in and fixing the other one that's broken.”
Also on the injury front, redshirt freshman wide receiver Rick Wells recently underwent surgery for a leg injury and is expected to miss the spring, while offensive tackle Kavaris Harkless (leg) remains out with no timetable for his return.
“Rick Wells' surgery went great,” McElwain said.
