UF Roundup: Florida Gulf Coast defeats No. 2 Gators
FORT MYERS – In three weekend series, the No. 2 Florida baseball team is 9-0. It's in the midweek games that the Gators have struggled at 1-3 after Tuesday's 7-3 loss to Florida Gulf Coast at jetBlue Park.
The Gators dropped to 10-3, while FGCU is 11-2. The teams face off again at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at McKethan Stadium.
Florida got on the board first with a run in the third inning. Deacon Liput reached with a one-out single and scored on Dalton Guthrie's RBI single for a 1-0 lead.
FGCU strung together a few hits and tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI single from Richie Garcia. In the fourth, the Eagles exploded for four runs, highlighted by Julio Gonzalez's bases-clearing triple to deep center field that gave FGCU a 5-1 lead.
The Gators got a run back in the fifth after a pair of two-out hits. Liput notched his second hit of the night with a double off the green monster in left field and scored on Mark Kolozsvary's RBI single.

LAS VEGAS – Florida's men's golf team carded a 303 (+15) in the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Tuesday, placing the Gators in a tie for 12th at 19 over-par. Sophomore Sam Horsfield notched three birdies en route to a one-under 71 to bring him to even par for the tournament and in a tie for 16th.
Following two rounds of play, USC remains atop the team leaderboard, with an overall score of 569 (-7) after shooting a 291 (+3) in the second round. California's Collin Morikawa kept hold of the top spot scores, carding a one-under 71 in the second round to move to 137 (-7) for the tournament.
