Newbauer names assistant coaches

Florida women’s basketball coach Cam Newbauer announced the hiring of his three assistant coaches and video coordinator Wednesday.

Kelly Rae Finley, Laura Harper and John McCray have all have joined Newbauer’s staff as assistant coaches. Finley spent last season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Arizona. Harper, the Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four on Maryland’s 2006 national title team, coached last season at George Washington. McCray was an assistant coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga under Hall of Fame coach Jim Foster since 2013.

In addition, Scott Schmelzer was hired as UF’s video coordinator. Schmelzer spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant under Newbauer at Belmont.

"First and foremost, we want to have the right people around our players, the right people around our program and our campus," Newbauer said. "That is the most important ingredient when I went to put our staff together. We have great balance with demeanors and personalities. All of them are passionate and excited about being at the University of Florida and representing the Gator Nation on and off the court."
