No hangover for the top-ranked Florida softball team.

The Gators suffered a tough extra-inning 3-1 loss Wednesday at No. 2 Florida State. But it didn't appear to have a carry-over effect in Friday's 8-0 six-inning win over North Texas at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. UF (47-5) had 14 hits, including a season-high eight doubles.

Game 2 of the series against North Texas (24-28) is at 1 p.m. Saturday. North Texas will then turn around and play Florida A&M at 3:30 p.m. UF will play North Texas at noon Sunday and FAMU at 2:30 p.m.

Delanie Gourley improved to 16-3 by going four innings, striking out seven and allowing one hit. Aleshia Ocasio finished up.

Janell Wheaton put the Gators up for good with a two-run double in the third inning.

Florida put the game away with five runs in the fourth, thanks to RBI doubles from Amanda Lorenz, Nicole DeWitt and Chelsea Herndon with a two-run single from Wheaton for good measure.

Ocasio closed it out in the sixth inning with, of course, a RBI double.

Lacrosse: The No. 2 Gators (16-2) face Denver (14-3), which defeated Georgetown in Thursday's other semifinal, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for the Big East Tournament trophy, and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Florida is 2-0 in Big East Championship games, and has won four conference titles all time. The game will be televised by FS2.

This will be the fifth meeting between the teams. Florida scored a 15-8 win in the regular season on March 25. Denver held an early 2-1 lead, but an 8-1 UF run closed the half at 9-3.
