Gators eliminated by Dawgs in men's tennis semis

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 3 seed Florida fell to No. 2 seed Georgia 4-3 in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament on Saturday. The highly contested match came down to the wire, as the teams remained tied throughout the match that was decided by a second set tiebreak.

The Gators (17-9) now look forward to the NCAA Tournament in two weeks. Rankings and tournament selections will be decided Tuesday.

In doubles play, Maxx Lipman-Elliott Orkin earned a quick 6-4 win, but Georgia won the other two matches for the point.

In singles play, Nathan Ponwith was forced to retire in the No. 1 position, giving Florida its first team point to tie up the score 1-1. Georgia retaliated with a win on Court 3 as Chase Perez-Blanco fell, but McClain Kessler was able to earn a huge 6-3, 6-3 win on Court 6 to tie the team score 2-2. Johannes Ingildsen earned the third team point for the Gators with a 6-4, 6-3 win on Court 5. Georgia then won on Court 2 on Court 4 to take the match.
